I can't have enough of this movie..

It is not a masterpiece of storytelling and Iñarritu's best will be forever Amores Perros,
But the movie "Biutiful" has some of the most soul shaking and mystical scenes that I can't bear to shake off my mind.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I understand why many won't like this movie.
I was moved to draw this frame of the movie accompanied by (what I believe is) the most metaphysical piece of dialog of the whole movie: "In the beginning there was nothing, only salt water and the sound of the wind".
It requires vision to come up with this sort of stuff, hats off to Mr. Iñarritu.

Birthday invite for my friend Karlatone

For her B-day I designed this e-invite. She wanted a "Brit-elegance" feel to her party..and I followed the same look and feel for the design to my best understanding.
You can read her literature blog here

Son of Dawn

I'm currently working on self publishing an online graphic novel (yeah, like, finally there will be something good to read in this blog). The tentative title is "Son of the Dawn", or "Son of the Morning Star"....something like that, I'm still not sure...
The drawing process has been a hard one..I confess I'm not really consistent with my character's appearances and also drawing the story that I want to tell requires a lot of drawing "whatever , whenever" so there's no chance of tricking, or cropping the shots.
I'm going the whole way with the drawing process: I sketch, I clean up and then I trace everything again in illustrator, I later add textures and color correct in photoshop...
The main character at the top title of this blog was created that way.
The story itself is complicated, but it involves a mystic force responsible for the creation of the universe, a family drama, an African civil war conflict and a reality show series of a racing Derby. "Lot's of crap rolled into one thing will surely make an interesting story" was my thinking, hopefully you guys will like it...

Artaud Final

Couldn't wait

Artaud progress 2...

More on the previous illo: It was done fully digital, tracing and coloring everything on a wacom intuos 4 tablet. All sketching and finals were done on photoshop CS5 with no traditional "pencil on paper" planning whatsoever. I'll post the final when it gets printed! Enjoy looking at some of the processes in the meantime...

At some point I worked at an office....

For the first year back in Mexico I worked at an office. Games Distributor Mexico.
There I worked on many projects, many media and learned a lot. I designed all of their visuals and was the director of the Creative Department. You can see their website here.

Sigipablo

Many of you have seen it, many of you have not...Sigi Pablo is a photographer from Colima Mexico, and a good friend of mine. I did the design of his new website and new logo. The guys from idealweb programed it. Click on the links, plenty of stuff to see.

At some point I got some stuff in a show...

It may be old news..but stick with me I´m giving you guys an update on the last 3 years.. My friends at mindsoup had a showcase of local artists from Colima in the Consumo Amor event which also featured a live auction of the work. Two of my pieces were shown there.

"Digital Media" Brochure for Centro

I was asked to create an Illustration for Centro for their new Digital Media course.

The large illustration with the big type at the right is the version closest to what ended up being printed. The rest represent the process of creating it. Many changes happened. Overall I'm happy with the finished product.

Ayahuasca vision

It's been more than three years now since I flew to Peru to drink the sacred medicine of Ayahuasca, a powerful psychotropic substance that no doubt changed my life.
It was a scary, and profound experience that opened my perception and understanding of life and reality. The visions have faded away, the lessons forgotten, the messages are now out of context... but I'm still hoping that some day I will be able to draw my experience in full.
It just seems that whatever I come up with doesn't do justice to the experience. Nevertheless this is some of the stuff that references it that I'm most pleased with.

The first image is a straight forward recollection of a vision where death was represented by fear, and by not letting go of that fear I wasn't able to transcend a cycle of repetitive occurrences. Meanwhile I was freaking out, crying and screaming my lungs out.
the second image is an attempt to narrate a story which involved the shamanistic aspects of ayahuasca. There is still more around to show...

Render of Building in Shangai.

I'm not sure what the status of this job is, but I couldn't wait to share it with you guys, when the time is right I'll show you some more.

ZARAMBEQUE

I proudly showcase the work I did for my friends from Zarambeque, a traditional folk music band from Veracruz, Mexico, that has a contemporary twist.. I did the image, logo, designed (and programed) their website, and also designed the cover for their first cd.

More Ari Brickman

ARI BRICKMAN

Over the last to years I have collaborated with my good friend Ari Brickman, he sings, he acts, he dances..What CAN'T he do?!!
I have worked with him specifically on his last solo album "Todo Este Querer" (Which can be roughly translated into "All this Loving"). I made the illustrations and took care of the case and booklet design (a first for me). Later on I designed his website and an EPK. Overall it was a very rewarding experience.

Aquí vamos otra vez...

I'm redesigning my new site and uploading all the new work..yep there is new work...After a 3 year hiatus I´m finally compiling all of it and uploading it for your viewing pleasure. Hopefully it will become a habit...(I say that every year)

In the meantime there is this blog...where you can catch up with some of the work that was done not only in the illustration field, but also some web design, some personal projects as well as the progress of some of this work.

Enjoy
