I woke up to good news, seeing one of the premier content platforms on the web redesign their structure and add up improvements as well as pushing the envelope once more on design by re-imagining their logo, yet, there is something about the isometrics that tick off my OCD…
I like the concept of flatness and at the same time 3Dimensionality, yet the intersection of the bottom line on the further-est side and the lower corner of the “m” drives me nuts…
It confuses my eye and makes me feel like the whole composition is “off”, it distracts my eyes from seeing an “M” and I just see an unproportioned triangle on top of the beginning of an “m”… Is it only me? It’s not that I don’t like the idea, it just feels like it lacks a little bit more work to make it truly harmonious...
It makes me think that Google's Material Design philosophy upon which the design is inspired or based, isn't quite fulfilled here... Flatness should still communicate 3Dimensionality, depth and even texture... it seems like a trendy option to go the Material Design way, yet it feels slightly half baked... you have flatness but no actual 3D feel and the green hues don't quite differentiate themselves enough to do the trick and not feel like a blob of green.. I feel like a little tweak on perspective or proportions on the last panel (from left to right) does the trick without even changing the color palette (which I do like)...
This makes my brain rest.
In the end, as much as I tried to dissect it and come up with a "Formal analysis" of the logo, it all goes back to my "perception and feelings"... It would be nice to know what are your opinions on this matter...

Under morestarch I designed the logo and identity for Arena Electoral's website. Later on out of this logo I designed it's mascot "Electorin" which stood for the values of the project and its collaborators. More on Arena Electoral here.
Arena Electoral (Work form last year part 4)
In september of 2011 I began to produce and design: website, illustrations and video material for Fundación Ethos "Arena Electoral" project. A social internet hub aimed to assist mainly young and first time voters in Mexico during the current presidential elections on how to vote. This project has also marked my first work done under the morestarch brand, our colaborative multimedia startup... These are examples of some of the banners. You can see more of Arena electoral here.
